This blog started a few years ago as a city girl trying to live the most simple and cost effective life possible, from the city. I posted about our family and the various “do it yourself” things that I did for my children and the lives that we lead in Norfolk, VA, home of the largest naval base in the world.
Unfortunately, in November of 2014, my father in law was diagnosed with Metastatic Small Cell Carcinoma, which had already spread from his brain to his liver and was rapidly making it’s way through his body. He has since passed and my husband and I inherited his property in South Carolina, which included the house that we now live in and the house next door, which was built sometime in the 1800s. We are sitting on nearly five acres of land and I finally have the opportunity to live the simpler life in the country.
While I was taking care of my father-in-law, I had to take the blog down because I simply did not have time to take care of it, so over the next few months, we will be posting new things, as well as some of the old favorites from the past.
Our family now consists of myself and our six children: DJ, Bean, Lou, Anna, Emily and Jr. Three boys and three girls who range in age from 2 to 12 years. There is never a dull moment here and there are sure to be some crazy times with us experimenting in the future with cooking, gardening on a larger scale, a new stocked pond, bees, chickens, peacocks, ducks, goats, and whatever else we decide to take on over the years.
We are still getting settled here and there will be changes in theme and such over the next few months and years, hopefully my ability to photograph things will get better with time (sorry in advance). Maybe I will make learning that one of the DIYs to come!
We hope that you will enjoy our posts and will contribute your thoughts, ideas and suggestions as we stumble through our new life in the country.
And please check our our Amazon Store, where we list all of the items that we actually purchase and use everyday and in the post that we have here. Purchasing from our store helps us to keep this blog going!
